Return of Weekend farmer’s market blogging: October 23 & 30, 2011

Well, when you miss a couple weeks due to travel, and then fail to post a week because you’re busy, it becomes almost a month between farmer’s market posts! I hope all two of you who read these managed to survive without them.

Have two weeks here — last Sunday and today.

Going chronoligically, last week was quite solid, as produce started to shift a bit into fall (which isn’t to say that summer veggies aren’t still around…). We got lamb sausage, eggs, strawberries, pluots, persimmons, a pomegranate (they’re everywhere now), meyer lemons, rapini, fennel, kale, purple potatoes, italian peppers, anaheim peppers, an avocado, spring onions, beets, tomatoes, parsley, sage, purple cauliflower, and some flowers. Check em out:

And this’s week’s is also great – fresh chorizo & Italian sausages, ground beef, parsley, basil, rosemary, fennel, rapini, san marzano & early girl  tomatoes, green beans, eggplants, artichokes, potatoes, baby shitakes, Afghan spinach bread & yogurt/mint spread, a bunch of peppers, kale, persimmons, and kiwis. That’s right — local *kiwi fruit*.  What to do with it all? Using a bit of last weel’s too, lunch today was some delicious sandwiches on afghan spinach bread, and dinner tonight is grilled chorizo, roasted beets & potatoes, and a kale and pomegranate salad. Tomorrow will be burgers topped w/ avocado & tomatoes along with some grilled artichokes and and green beans, and Tuesday will feature a pasta sauce with fresh tomatoes, italian sausage, mushrooms, eggplant, peppers, parsley, basil, and fennel.

Here’s what we got today:
