Weekend farmer’s market blogging: September 18th, 2011
One of the awesomest parts of Mountain View so far is definitely the farmer’s market. Supposedly, it’s the 5th biggest in the whole state — something like 80 different vendors with all kinds of incredible stuff (made more so by the still-hard-to-internalize fact that things like artichokes, avocados, and lemons are grown locally).
So here’s this week’s haul, which includes English peas, nectarines & pluots, tomatoes (5 kinds), rainbow chard, strawberries, fennel, eggplant (2 kinds), kale, rapini, onions, shallots, garlic, celery, parsley, carrots, bell peppers, padron peppers, shitake mushrooms, squash (2 kinds), coffee, lamb merguez sausage, & flowers:
Now, of course, the question becomes what to do with it all. Lunch was sausage from Trader Joe’s we already had, grilled, plus sauteed onions, shallots, peppers, tomatoes, and rapini, with a little melted swiss cheese, inside a roll from Le Boulanger. A bunch of it will be used for the wife’s birthday Cioppino tomorrow, maybe a sausage tagine w/ eggplant later in the week, and will probably use the peas & some greens with pasta.
